It’s really useful sometimes to be able to take a picture of your computer screen, either so that you can show someone what is wrong or to demonstrate something. It’s very easy to do this on a university computer.

First, go to the webpage, window or document that you want to take a picture of.

Then click the windows start menu in the bottom left (1), it’s likely that you will see the Snipping Tool (1) in the program menu above it (see picture below)

If you don’t see the snipping tool, don’t worry. Just type snipping tool in the search box (1) at the bottom and it should find it quickly. Click on Snipping Tool (2)

Your screen will lighten and you’ll see a small box in the middle of the screen like the one below. You will also see the instruction to Drag the cursor around the area you want to capture (1). All you need to do is to use your mouse to create a rectangle around the area you want to take a picture of and let go.

Once you have done that, a new box will show up and you can see the picture you have taken. Above the picture, you can either save the picture (1), copy the picture (2) (e.g. to paste into a word document or an email) or (3) do some basic edits to the picture, such as highlighting or drawing circles round items in the picture.
